The ruling concerning manufacturing ashtrays

Question:

What is the ruling concerning manufacturing ashtrays?May Allah reward you.

Answer:

All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. Peace and blessing be upon whom Allah sent as a mercy to the Worlds, upon his Family, his Companions and his Brothers till the Day of Resurrection:

Know that the means have the [same] ruling concerning the objectives. So, the means leading to a given objective are dependent on that objective and both of them are concerned by the ruling. Smoking is prohibited as an end, because of the harm it causes to the body, and accordingly all its appurtenances are prohibited as a means. Therefore, prohibiting a thing encompasses the prohibition of all what leads to it, or cooperates in it. For this reason, the scholars of jurisprudence have established the basic rule: “Anything leading to what is forbidden is [in itself] forbidden, and it is forbidden to cooperate thereupon”, pursuant to His saying سبحانه وتعالى:

﴿وَتَعَاوَنُواْ عَلَى ٱلۡبِرِّ وَٱلتَّقۡوَىٰۖ وَلَا تَعَاوَنُواْ عَلَى ٱلۡإِثۡمِ وَٱلۡعُدۡوَٰنِۚ ﴾ [المائدة: 2]

The meaning of the verse:

﴾ Help you one another in Al-Birr and At-Taqwâ (virtue, righteousness and piety); but do not help one another in sin and transgression ﴿ [Al-Mâ’ida: 2].

The perfect knowledge belongs to Allah عزَّ وجلَّ. Our last prayer is all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. Peace and blessing be upon our Prophet, his Family, his Companions and his Brothers till the Day of Resurrection.
