Dealing with a heretical imam

The question:

There is a heretical Imam in the mosque of our district, how can we deal with him? Benefit us and may Allah reward you with good.

The answer:

All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. Peace and blessing be upon whom Allah sent as a mercy to the Worlds, upon his Family, his Companions and his Brothers till the Day of Resurrection.

Dealing with heretics differs according to the weakness or force position and state, and depends on the one who dissimulates his heresy and the one who shows it up and calls to it.

For the state of weakness and the emergence of heretics, the duty is to care with them and be patient and not to show them what could encourage their tyranny and oppression towards the people of Sunna, like being moved away from the mosque and enclose their activities. As well as doing the duty towards them by unveiling their state, warning against them, showing and teaching the Sunna. But if the people of Sunna have the power and the dominance; in this case it is necessary to repress heresies according to what the rules of the religion dictate; with roughness, rigor and desertion - if necessary - so that they return to the straightforwardness which is the instructions and commands of religion. And since its adepts are supported, the teachings requirements of the Prophet صلَّى الله عليه وسلَّم conduct push us to behave towards them with sympathy but without flattery while doing the duty of unveiling them and warning against them.

For the one who dissimulates his heresy we leave his inner to Allah the Very-High. It was in that way that the Prophet صلَّى الله عليه وسلَّم and his companions treated hypocrites during their time.

The perfect knowledge belongs to Allah عزَّ وجلَّ. Our last prayer is all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. Peace and blessing be upon our Prophet, his Family, his Companions and Brothers till the Day of Resurrection.
