Holding the wedding banquet in wedding halls

The question:

What is the ruling regarding holding a wedding party in a wedding hall?

The answer:

All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. Peace and blessing be upon whom Allah sent as a mercy to the Worlds, upon his Family, his Companions and his Brothers till the Day of Resurrection.

Holding a feast and choosing the right place for it is included in the scope of usages, and the principle as regards usages is that they are permissible, we only prohibit what Allah تعالى has forbidden, otherwise we will be concerned by what Allah تعالى said in this verse :

﴿قُلْ أَرَأَيْتُمْ مَا أَنْزَلَ اللهُ لَكُمْ مِنْ رِزْقٍ فَجَعَلْتُمْ مِنْهُ حَرَامًا وَحَلاَلاً قُلْ آللهُ أَذِنَ لَكُمْ أَمْ عَلَى اللهِ تَفْتَرُونَ﴾ [يونس: 59].

The meaning of the verse:

Say (O Muhammad to these polytheists): “Tell me, what provision Allâh has sent down to you! And you have made of it lawful and unlawful.” Say (O Muhammad): "Has Allâh permitted you (to do so), or do you invent a lie against Allâh?”﴿ [Yûnus (Jonah): 59].

We should not turn away from this principle only if it is associated with a religious interdiction which emanates from a corrupt belief or which constitutes a transgression towards a given established religious ruling, or it brings about a certain or expected harm.

Hereupon, since the majority of these wedding halls contain a variety of corrupt behaviors, like near-nakedness, non-veiling, dancing in a seducing manner which is inherited from traditions of disbelievers and devious people and others, in addition to spreading evil overtly and harming people and the malicious gossip done disrespectfully and indifferently by the owners of these halls toward people who do not want to hear the musical instruments of Satan and the sound of the cursed singers among his helpers, in order to denigrate people of faith, straightness and piety, hiring these halls with all what they contain of the aforementioned evil things and being in these places is considered a consent to immoral and libertine people and an approval of their deeds. It is also a way of strengthening them so that they commit more vices which they would continue to spread among people. In fact, Sharia does not accept this kind of cooperation, Allah تعالى says:

﴿وَتَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْبِرِّ وَالتَّقْوَى وَلاَ تَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الإِثْمِ وَالعُدْوَانِ وَاتَّقُوا اللهَ إِنَّ اللهَ شَدِيدُ العِقَابِ﴾ [المائدة 2].

The meaning of the verse:

Help you one another in Al-Birr and At-Taqwâ (virtue, righteousness and piety); but do not help one another in sin and transgression﴿ [Al-Mâ'ida (The Table Spread with Food): 2].

However, if there are halls for recreation which do not indulge in such evil things, then the ruling regarding usage comes into force; that is to say, it is allowed and permissible as previously said.

The perfect knowledge belongs to Allah عزَّ وجلَّ. Our last prayer is all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. Peace and blessing be upon our Prophet, his Family, his Companions and Brothers till the Day of Resurrection.
